Experiencing new cultures and a way of life beyond our own broadens our worldview, feeds our minds and strengthens our hearts. Travel is a powerful agent of social awareness and self realization, an understanding unattainable in the classroom.
Our Globetrotter program identifies students through teachers, principals and guidance counselors who recognize that hidden potential, the diamonds in the rough; those students whose life can be changed with an opportunity to grow and give back.
This year our Globetrotters are a real mix of students facing very different challenges:
· A 16 year old who has a 4 year old; living with her pastor and working to turn her life around.
· A young woman who has lost both parents and is living with her 24 year old sister and her two children trying to make ends meet.
· A young man whose biggest fear is going to prison, because many of the males in his family are currently incarcerated.
· A young woman who has grown up with the challenge of three brothers with disabilities and is looking to spread her wings.
· A student who was described by her teacher as “one of those kids you can miss but when coaxed from the back row of the class you discover how wonderful she is. She has a dark wit which certainly speaks to her intelligence but also shows her sadness and how vulnerable she feels”.
· A young man who lost his parents as they fled civil war in Sierra Leone. After 5 years in refugee camps, he came to America and is a star high school soccer player. This is his first trip back to Africa.
Please help us help our 2010 Globetrotters. How can I help?

Local supporters:
- Become a mentor, all of these students can use an adult perspective or advice as they forge through their high school years.
- We are looking for fundraising opportunities or part time work for these students, yard work and chores are perfect. For many of these students jobs are out of reach because they don’t have transportation. Are you willing to reach out to help a kid who has no mode of transportation?
- We will be collecting and distributing “Give a Gallon” bags again this year. Put some of your favorite things (shampoo, lotion, birthday supplies, mosquito repellent, etc) in a gallon zip lock bag and send it to us.
